She Believed She Could So She Did

Payton Cowley

If you’re reading this then yay you’ve stumbled across my little corner of our website! I’m Payton, one half of the duo behind Blossom—my beautiful sister-in-law Mihi is the other half. Here you’ll find a mix of everything from the chaos of motherhood to the quirks of girlhood and beyond. I’m SO excited to share this journey with you through ‘The Journal’—a space where I get to dive into my love for writing and, hopefully, bring a little inspiration along the way.

Blossom has been a wild ride so far, and one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that it’s way easier to convince ourselves we can’t do something than it is to convince ourselves that we can. Seriously, It wasn’t until I started to believe creating a business was something I could really do that it started to actually happen.

Between the whirlwind of motherhood and the daily rhythm of family life, it wasn’t too long ago I found myself searching for something more—a creative outlet that would fill my cup outside of being a wife and mum. Don’t get me wrong, my roles as a wife and mother mean the world to me, but after having my son, I felt a part of my identity slip away… which i’ve come to learn is actually super common when becoming a new mum. Nonetheless, I needed something to throw myself into, something that sparked passion and excitement.

That's when I pitched my idea to Mihi. She’s a creative wizard with a flair for sewing, and after some convincing, she decided to take the leap with me. From the start, Mihi and I were on the same page: family would always come first. We made the decision early on to maintain a healthy work-life balance, knowing that our families’ well-being was the foundation of our success. We both believe that the most important work we will ever do is within the walls of our homes, and this mutual understanding set the tone for how we approached Blossom.

The name ‘Blossom’ came to me on a whim. It sounded sweet, and both Mihi and I have this thing for flowers—she loves handpicked blooms from the garden, while I’m content with my artificial ones (that don’t die) and look pretty in my collection of groovy vases. It’s a quirky detail that perfectly sums up our personalities and our relationship IYKYK hahaha

Every year, our mother-in-law encourages our family to choose a 'power word' to focus on. This year, my word is "nurture." I chose this word because I wanted to nurture new habits, relationships, and, most importantly, myself. Blossom, has allowed me to do all of that. This fun little business venture has become a haven for me, a place where I can nurture my creative side and personal growth. This journey has already been incredibly fulfilling, and it feels like the beginning of something truly special.

Our motto, “Reap what we sew,” embodies everything we aspire to instill in our brand and our homes. Through Blossom, we aim to teach our children that hard work brings blessings not only to ourselves but to others as well. We are learning as we go, understanding that mistakes are part of the process. But what’s crucial is that we never lose sight of what matters most—family, balance, and creative fulfillment.

Blossom has taught me the importance of nurturing my passions. I look back at our blossom journey so far and it’s wild to think how much negative self talk I had to get over to get to this point.

Imagine if every girl believed in herself. oh, what a world it could be.

She believed she could, so she did - now say it with me.
