The Flowers You’re Already Growing
Payton CowleyThere’s a quiet kind of magic in watching something grow. You plant a seed, water it, and wait. At first, nothing happens. But underneath the surface, something is stirring, something you can’t rush or force—only nurture. And one day, without fanfare or warning, it blooms.
Life is like that. It’s easy to get caught up in chasing the next thing, the next goal, the next season of your life, all while overlooking the flowers you’re already growing. Right now, in the soil you’ve been tending day in and day out, beauty is already taking shape. Even if it feels small or slow, there are petals unfolding around you.
Maybe it’s in the simple moments—the ones that don’t seem extraordinary. The laughter shared over a meal, the way the sunlight filters through your kitchen window, the quiet contentment you feel when your feet hit the grass in the morning. Those are the flowers you’re growing, the ones that bloom in the midst of your everyday life.
The other day, I found myself taking my breakfast outside, barefoot on the grass while my son played in the yard. In that soft, early morning light, I looked at him picking dandelions and blowing on them, his face so full of wonder, and it hit me: this is it. These small moments, they’re my blooms. Tiny, fleeting moments of beauty unfolding right in front of me, hidden in plain sight.
And then there was that rainy afternoon. We were sitting by the window, watching raindrops race each other down the glass, his little voice cheering for his favourite drop. It wasn’t anything special, but I realized it was everything. The simple joy of just being present.
Sometimes we forget that growth doesn’t always look like a garden full of roses. Sometimes it looks like wildflowers, scattered and untamed, blooming in unexpected corners of our days. It’s the moments you thought were ordinary that turn out to be the ones you look back on, realizing they were full of life all along.
You’ve already planted so much. And while there’s always room for more—more dreams, more goals, more growth—don’t overlook the garden you’re already standing in. The blooms may not be perfect or polished, but they’re yours. Each petal a reflection of the care and time you’ve given to your life, even when you didn’t think it was enough.
Growth doesn’t always happen in grand, sweeping gestures. Sometimes it’s quiet, steady, the kind of beauty that reveals itself slowly. So look around. The flowers you’re already growing are proof that you’re exactly where you need to be, doing exactly what you need to do.
Not everything needs to be rushed. Not every flower needs to be forced open. Trust that what’s blooming in your life, right now, is enough. You’re already growing something beautiful, sometimes you just need to slow down to see it.
